Silverstein Headlines The House Of Blues In Boston

Silverstein headlines and celebrates their 25 year anniversary as a band with this tour, with support from Thursday, Arm’s Length, and Split Chain.
First up with the band Split Chain starting the night. The band announced in between songs it was their first time in the states for a tour. Although the crowd was on the more quiet side, it was clear they had a few fans already in the crowd from the cheers and some singing along. This grunge style nu-metal band has a laid-back stage presence that is very fitting for their grunge inspiration, but engages with the audience, moving around the stage and doing their best to get the crowd pumped. This may have been their first time in America in general, and Boston, but I don’t think it will be the last.

Next up in this slightly mixed genre lineup is Arm’s Length. From the moment the band hit the stage, it was clear that there was many fans in the crowd from their excited screams and cheers as they started to play. Their fun and unique sound somehow perfectly matches how the band looks with their quirky haircuts and fun outfits. Their stage presence was fun, they looked as though they were having fun playing their music and it was contagious and made you want to also move and dance along with them. The vocalist was playing guitar, singing, and dancing all at once sometimes and the other band members kept the energy up as well.

This next band is arguably just as big and well-known, if not more so, than the headliner – Thursday finally hit the stage. As soon as the band hit the stage, there was a buzz of excitement before they even played a single chord. Their sound was spot on from their albums over the years. Their stage presence and performance made it easy to tell that this band was comfortable on stage and right at home, after 27 years of being a band, the stage is probably like their second home. The band played a mix of their older and newer songs, such as “War All The Time”, “Understanding in a Car Crash”, and “Taking Inventory From A Frozen Lake”. The diverse setlist gave something for a fan of any stage of their music. The crowd was excited and well-warmed up before Thursday hit the stage but their performance took the excitement to a whole new level.

Finally it was time for Silverstein. This is a tour to celebrate the band’s 25 year anniversary since their start so this show was a bit more special than their usual for the band and fans alike. This tour was a bit different than some other anniversary shows, they weren’t playing a full album all the way through or just older music, instead they played a couple songs from each album they have released. Starting with their latest singles “Skin & Bones” and “Confession”. This show was just days after “Confessions” was released and you could still audibly hear the crowd singing along with the band.

As the band continued playing, it was clear they were going back in time musically. They played other hits from over the years such as “Bad Habits”, “Vices”, “Call It Karma”, and “Smile in Your Sleep”. This show had something for everyone, fans who had been there since the beginning or if they hopped on at any other album through the years.

Silverstein has amazing stage presence, all members moving around and using as much of the stage as they could. Their stage set-up had the drum on another level, screens playing montages of the band from over the years or album artwork to match the songs they were playing, lights that flowed to the songs. The show wasn’t just the music but an entire performance that played like a movie of the band’s past. There was banter in between songs that touched on the band’s past, their appreciation of their fans, and even the origins of the band name. When the band was first formed, before there were songs written, lead vocalist and founding member, Shane Told would sing from a Shel Silverstein book to the music for his vocals. Fun facts included, it was a top notch show that made it clear Silverstein is not slowing down any time soon.
