Skillet And Seether Co-Headline At Roadrunner Boston

On an alternating co-headlining tour Skillet and Seether bring their tour to Boston for a jam packed venue.

The first artist for the night was newcomer and rising star Royale Lynn. Her unique sound is an intoxicating hybrid of punk attitude with country roots – called “Punktry.” Her growing success as a songwriter has deemed her a force to be reckoned with.

Her viral song “Six Feet Deep” is sitting at 6 million views on TikTok/Instagram and counting. Released on April 21st, the song debuted at #3 on the American Country iTunes chart. In January 2023, she released “Runs In The Water”, which secured placement on CMT and debuted at #4 on the American Country iTunes chart.

From the moment she stepped on stage, Royale Lynn commanded attention. She greeted the audience with a warm smile and a twang in her voice that immediately drew fans in. The crowd, a mix of loyal followers and curious newcomers, buzzed with anticipation.

Overall, Royale Lynn’s performance in Boston was a testament to her growing star power. Her blend of traditional country influences with modern sensibilities resonated with the crowd, and her genuine connection with fans set her apart as an artist to watch. If this show was any indication, Boston—and the country music world—won’t soon forget Royale Lynn.

Next artist to hit the stage was American singer, songwriter and guitarist from Kalispell, Montana Tim Montana. From the first chord, it was clear that Tim Montana wasn’t holding back. He and his band kicked off the night with a blistering rendition of “Get You Some,” setting the tone for an evening full of heavy riffs, roaring vocals, and a rowdy good time. With his wild beard, infectious grin, and relentless enthusiasm, Montana instantly owned the stage, turning the vast Roadrunner space into what felt like a backyard party with a thousand friends.

The setlist showcased Montana’s versatility, mixing Southern rock bangers with gritty country anthems. Tracks like “Ain’t Coming Down” and “Shut Me Out” had the crowd chanting along, fists raised in the air, while his anthem “Devil You Know” brought a darker, more intense energy that rippled through the audience. (Royale Lynn came out to help.) Every song felt like a story of Montana’s blue-collar roots, infused with a rebellious streak that had the crowd completely engaged.

Tim Montana’s performance was a masterclass in country-rock fusion, blending the raw energy of Southern rock with authentic storytelling and a blue-collar edge. It was loud, it was wild, and it was unforgettable—everything a Tim Montana show should be.

The next band to hit the stage was South African rock band founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng Seether. The band originally performed under the name Saron Gas until 2002, when they moved to the United States and changed it to Seether to avoid confusion with the deadly chemical known as sarin gas. Lead vocalist and guitarist Shaun Morgan is the band’s longest serving member, bassist Dale Stewart joined shortly after formation while drummer John Humphrey joined them for the band’s second album. Since 2018, the band has been employing second guitarist Corey Lowery. Seether’s musical style has been described as post-grunge, alternative metal, hard rock, and nu metal.

The band announced the new single “Judas Mind” which was released on July 10, 2024. The band later announced that they will release their ninth studio album, titled The Surface Seems So Far on September 20, 2024.

Seether brought their signature brand of post-grunge and hard rock fury to Boston’s Roadrunner  delivering a powerful and emotionally charged performance that left fans buzzing long after the final note. With a full house of devoted fans, the band turned the venue into an arena of heavy riffs, haunting melodies, and raw intensity.

From the moment Seether stepped onto the stage, the energy was palpable. Opening with their hard-hitting anthem “Gasoline,” the band wasted no time in diving into the deep end of their discography, giving fans exactly what they came for: a relentless assault of chunky guitar riffs and Shaun Morgan’s unmistakable growl. The crowd, which had been building anticipation all night, erupted as the band launched into their set.

The night’s biggest highlight came when they played their 2005 hit “Remedy.” The crowd erupted into a full frenzy, with mosh pits breaking out as fans headbanged and sang along to every word. The energy in the room was electric, and for a few minutes, it felt like the walls of Roadrunner could barely contain the sonic force Seether was unleashing.

Overall, Seether’s show was everything a rock fan could hope for: raw, loud, and deeply emotional. Their ability to blend heavy, distorted riffs with vulnerable lyricism makes them a band that continues to resonate with audiences, and their Boston performance proved that they are still at the top of their game.

The final band of the evening was American Christian rock band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1996 Skillet. The band currently consists of husband and wife duo John Cooper (lead vocals, bass) and Korey Cooper (rhythm guitar, keyboards, backing vocals) along with Jen Ledger (drums, co-lead vocals) and Seth Morrison (lead guitar). The band has released eleven studio albums, two of which, Collide and Comatose, received Grammy nominations. Two of their albums, Comatose and Awake, are certified Platinum and Double Platinum respectively by the RIAA, while Rise and Unleashed are certified Gold as of June 29, 2020.

Skillet unleashed a fiery, high-energy performance, proving once again why they are one of the most electrifying live acts in rock music. With their fusion of hard rock, metal, and symphonic elements, Skillet captivated the audience from the first thunderous note to the final explosive encore.

As the lights dimmed and the intro to “Feel Invincible” rang out, the crowd erupted in cheers, setting the tone for a night filled with adrenaline-pumping anthems and crowd-pleasing moments. Frontman John Cooper stormed the stage, immediately commanding attention with his booming voice and larger-than-life presence. His wife, Korey Cooper, on guitar and backing vocals, brought her own electric energy, shredding through riffs and hyping up the crowd with infectious enthusiasm.

The setlist was a fan’s dream, packed with hits from across Skillet’s catalog. “Monster” brought the house down, as the entire venue erupted into a massive sing-along. The heavy, chugging guitars and intense drum beats from Jen Ledger were matched by the crowd’s roaring energy. Ledger, who also took on vocal duties during songs like “Awake and Alive,” showcased her incredible dual talent as both a powerful drummer and an emotional singer.

Throughout the night, Skillet perfectly balanced their heavier tracks with their more anthemic and uplifting songs. “Hero” and “Rise” had the crowd pumping their fists and chanting along.  The band’s Christian rock roots shone through in moments like these, as their message of hope and resilience resonated deeply with the crowd.

John Cooper’s interaction with the crowd was another highlight of the night. His down-to-earth personality shone through as he spoke about the power of music and faith, encouraging fans to push through struggles and keep fighting. The band’s positive and motivational message was woven throughout the entire set, creating an inspiring atmosphere that had the audience feeling empowered.

Before Skillet closed the night with “The Resistance,”there was a medical emergency in the crowd where they had to take a fan out of the venue on a stretcher. As soon as she got carried out Cooper said to the crowd “I know that you guys don’t pay to hear me preach but let’s say a prayer for the fan that was just carried out.” He then went into a short prayer before finishing the song. The energy in the room was at its peak. The crowd, a sea of raised hands and fists, screamed the lyrics back at the band, making for a powerful and unforgettable finale.

Skillet’s performance was nothing short of electrifying. Their ability to combine hard-hitting rock with uplifting, inspiring messages makes them a band that connects with fans on multiple levels. With their relentless energy, tight musicianship, and dynamic stage presence, Skillet continues to prove why they are one of the most exciting and beloved acts in the modern rock scene.
