Memphis May Fire Shapeshifter Tour Sells Out The Worcester Palladium With Their Largest Headlining Crowd

Memphis May Fire brought heir electrifying ‘Shapeshifter’ tour to the Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts, delivering a performance that left the audience exhilarated and craving more. 

The first band of the evening was Elijah, hailing from Nashville, took the stage with an energy that immediately captivated the audience.

His songs showcased Elijah’s ability to blend hard rock intensity with melodic hooks, creating a sound that resonates with fans of both genres.

Elijah’s journey from writing country songs to embracing his metalcore roots post-pandemic was evident in his performance. His stage presence, honed through years of experience in various bands, combined with his authentic connection to the music, made for a compelling set that left a lasting impression on the audience. His recent EP, “Skin” has been gaining traction, and live renditions of its tracks further solidified his place in the hard rock scene.

Elijah’s ability to engage the crowd, coupled with his powerful vocals and dynamic instrumentals, marked him as a standout act in an already impressive lineup.

In a night filled with diverse musical acts, Elijah’s performance stood out for its authenticity and vigor. As he continues to evolve and reach new audiences, Elijah is undoubtedly a name to watch in the hard rock and metalcore scenes.

The next band of the evening was from central Massachusetts, Wind Walkers. They have been redefining the boundaries of their genre, blending the relentless energy of modern metal with the melodic sensibilities of pop. Their lineup—vocalist Trevor Borg, guitarists Timothy and Neil Comeau, bassist Craig Martin, and drummer Ethan Cheesman—demonstrated a cohesive synergy that translated into a captivating live experience.

Trevor Borg’s vocal performance was a standout, seamlessly transitioning between guttural screams and haunting clean vocals that conveyed a spectrum of emotions. His stage presence, combined with the band’s tight instrumentation, created an atmosphere that was both intense and intimate.

Wind Walkers’ ability to convey vulnerability and strength in equal measure was evident throughout their performance. Their music, which often explores themes of personal struggle and resilience, was brought to life on stage in a way that was both authentic and electrifying.

As they continue to tour and share their music with a growing audience, Wind Walkers are proving themselves to be not just performers, but storytellers who connect with listeners on a profound level.

The next band of the evening was a British post-hardcore band from Leeds, formed in 2018, Caskets .The band are signed onto SharpTone Records and currently consists of lead vocalist Matthew Flood, lead guitarist Benjamin Wilson, rhythm guitarist Craig Robinson, and drummer James Lazenby.

On 25 February 2024, they announced the departure of founding member and bassist Christopher McIntosh. On 28 February, the band announced that they would play the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, California. On 7 March, the band announced their own headlining tour in Australia supported by The Home Team.  On 27 June, Caskets announced their first headlining tour of the United States and Canada, scheduled from September to  October.

Caskets delivered a powerful and emotionally charged performance. The evening was a testament to the band’s ability to connect deeply with their audience through both sound and sentiment.

Opening with “Believe,” Caskets immediately set the tone for the night. Lead vocalist Matt Flood’s emotive delivery resonated throughout the venue, drawing the crowd into the band’s introspective world. The audience’s response was palpable, with fans singing along passionately, creating a shared experience that blurred the lines between performer and spectator.

The setlist showcased a blend of tracks from their debut album Lost Souls and their latest release Reflections, including standout songs like “Make Me A Martyr,”and “Lost in Echoes,”  Each performance was marked by a balance of melodic intricacy and raw energy, highlighting the band’s versatility within the post-hardcore genre.

The evening culminated with “Glass Heart,” leaving the audience in a state of reflective euphoria. Caskets’ ability to convey profound emotion through their music solidified their standing as a compelling force in the alternative music scene.

The final band of the evening was American metalcore band formed in Denton, Texas, and currently signed to Rise Records, Memphis May Fire. The band currently consists of lead guitarist Kellen McGregor, lead vocalist Matty Mullins, bassist Cory Elder, and drummer Jake Garland. Formed in 2006, they have released seven studio albums and two EPs to date.  Their fourth album, Unconditional, debuted at No. 4 on the US Billboard 200 and atop the Alternative Albums chart.

The band showcased their evolution in the metalcore scene with a setlist that seamlessly blended new tracks with fan favorites. Opening with the intense “Shapeshifter” the band immediately set a high-energy tone. Vocalist Matty Mullins captivated the crowd with his dynamic range, effortlessly transitioning between melodic verses and powerful screams. Guitarist Kellen McGregor’s riffs were both intricate and forceful, providing a solid backbone to the band’s sound. Bassist Cory Elder and drummer Jake Garland maintained a tight rhythm section that kept the audience engaged throughout the night.

The setlist featured a mix of tracks from Shapeshifter, including “Infection,” “Paralyzed,” and the title track “Shapeshifter,” as well as classics like “The Abandoned” and “Somebody.” Each song was met with enthusiastic responses, with fans singing along and participating in mosh pits that added to the concert’s vibrant atmosphere.

Mullins took moments between songs to connect with the audience on a personal level, discussing themes of identity and self-discovery that are prevalent in their new album. His candidness resonated with fans, creating an intimate environment despite the venue’s size.

The concert concluded with an encore that included the emotionally charged “Miles Away,” during which the crowd illuminated the venue with phone lights, creating a poignant and memorable ending to the night.

Memphis May Fire’s performance in Worcester was a testament to their growth as artists and their ability to connect with fans through both music and message. The ‘Shapeshifter’ tour not only highlights their latest work but also cements their status as a formidable presence in the metalcore genre.
