It kicks off with “Banditos,” a track that delivers exactly what fans have come to expect from Slaughter To Prevail , blistering percussion, crushing guitar work, and the unmistakable growl of frontman Alex Terrible. The song sets the tone for an album as intense as its title, while also introducing new layers to the chaos. Cinematic elements weave through the aggression, adding unexpected depth and expanding the band’s sound beyond the usual boundaries of deathcore. Just as the track reaches peak brutality, it takes a sharp left turn with a playful mariachi-inspired outro, briefly catching listeners off guard before plunging into the explosive single “Russian Grizzly In America,” which is currently available on all major streaming platforms.
Bridging both English and Russian lyrics, “Russian Grizzly In America” is a no-holds-barred display of Slaughter to Prevail’s brand of chaos. The song blends militaristic rhythm patterns, guttural vocals, and theatrical flair into a brutal anthem. But it’s the video that elevates the experience: complete with bears, UFC cameos, and wild cosplay, it turns the track into a full-blown spectacle. It’s loud, unrelenting, and unapologetically over-the-top, everything Slaughter To Prevail fans live for.
The album features a few standout collaborations, starting with “Imdead,” featuring Ronnie Radke of Falling In Reverse. These two are no strangers to working together, Alex Terrible appeared on Falling In Reverse’s 2024 album Popular Monster on the track “Ronald,” which easily stood out as one of the heaviest songs on that release.
On “Imdead,” they take it even further. Radke brings his signature theatrical chaos, while Terrible delivers that raw, guttural force he’s known for. The way their vocals twist around each other creates this intense push and pull—two different styles marrying together in a way that doesn’t feel forced. Its metalcore meets deathcore in a way that feels intentional and fresh. Neither one overpowers the other, they just feed off each other’s energy and create something that hits hard from start to finish. It’s more than just a guest feature, it feels like a true collaboration. And with both bands hitting the road together this fall, it’s going to be wild seeing them bring that energy to the stage live.
Slaughter to Prevail isn’t just out for heaviness on Grizzly. They’re telling stories, and tracks like “Babayka,” “Viking,” and “Koschei” make that loud and clear. Each one leans into Russian folklore and myth, giving the chaos more weight and meaning. “Babayka” feels like pure nightmare fuel—dark, creepy, and unsettling in the best way. The breakdown destroys, but it’s that slow, haunting buildup that really sticks with you. “Viking” opens with this wild, ritualistic vibe that feels like something straight out of a Heilung set. Deep, earthy, and hypnotic. Then the drums hit and it’s full-on war. It’s tribal, aggressive, and Alex Terrible’s rattling gutturals are absolutely next level here. Fans are already losing it over that vocal delivery. “Koschei” dives straight into madness. Fast, chaotic, and soaked in blackened deathcore energy. It’s like a myth unraveling in real time. These tracks aren’t just heavy for the sake of being heavy. They pull you into a world, and once you’re in, there’s no letting up.
Another standout is “Song 3,” a genre-blending collaboration with BABYMETAL that will also appear on their upcoming Metal Fourth album. This track proves just how effortlessly Slaughter to Prevail can merge their crushing deathcore brutality with soaring melodic choruses to create something completely fresh. The result is a theatrical powerhouse, equal parts chaos and control, heavy yet beautifully balanced. BABYMETAL brings their signature kawaii metal energy, with vocals, flows, and lyrics all centered around the concept of “3,” adding a playful yet powerful layer. To top it off, Matt Heafy of Trivium steps in with a shamisen performance, injecting a traditional Japanese flair that cuts through the noise in the best way. It’s an unexpected fusion that somehow works, and it works really well.
“Lift That Shit” doesn’t hold back. It’s a full-force, no-nonsense track that keeps the album’s energy surging forward. It’s relentless and chaotic in the best way—no filler, just a brutal smack to the face that reminds you what Slaughter to Prevail does best.
“Behelit” brings something different to the table. The track leans into more melodic territory on the chorus, while still keeping things heavy. “Drawing inspiration from the manga Berserk, the track carries an epic, almost theatrical weight. Its layered vocals and dynamic structure highlight the band’s creative evolution—blending unrelenting brutality with raw emotion in a way that truly sets them apart.
Then there’s “Rodina,” arguably one of the most haunting and powerful songs on the album. It opens with a sound that stands apart from the rest—just a single guitar and Alex Terrible singing with raw power, but not the full-on onslaught we’re used to. Orchestral elements slowly weave in, creating a slow build that pulls you in before the chaos finally erupts. It’s beautiful and violent all at once. This track has passion, grit, soaring solos, it has everything. It adds real depth to the album and offers a rare moment to breathe without ever letting up on intensity.
“Conflict” picks the pace right back up. It continues the sonic onslaught with an unapologetically modern edge. Slaughter to Prevail blends genres without hesitation, and “Conflict” is a clear example of them challenging what heavy music can sound like.
“Kid of Darkness” is a straight-up beast. Released ahead of the album, it set the tone early and still hits just as hard in the full tracklist. There’s no soft moment here—just nonstop aggression and tight musicianship that punches through start to finish.
Closing things out is “1984,” and it’s a standout for more than just its sound. The track makes a statement. Named after Orwell’s dystopian novel, it’s a scathing critique of war and oppression. It trades in mythic violence for a real-world message, closing the album with impact and weight. It’s heavy in every sense of the word.
Grizzly is Slaughter to Prevail’s boldest statement yet, continuing to push boundaries and carve out new territory in the deathcore and metalcore scenes. Unrelenting and unapologetic, they’re not just evolving their sound, they’re paving the way for the next generation of heavy music. The album is beautifully woven together, delivering a seamless and uninterrupted journey from start to finish.
Since bursting onto the scene, the Russian deathcore band has been making serious waves, building a massive global fanbase and delivering unforgettable live shows that fuse crushing death metal with theatrical intensity. They have even carved out a place in the Vans Warped Tour revival, already dominating the DC stop and gearing up for Long Beach, CA, and Orlando, FL.
