On a beautiful summer night Barenaked Ladies brought energy, charm, and pure musical fun to the LeaderBank Pavilion, with special guests Fastball and Sugar Ray.
The first band of the evening was American rock band. It was formed in Austin, Texas, in 1992 Fastball.
Fastball took the stage with the confidence and charisma that only a seasoned band can deliver. With decades of experience under their belts and a catalog of hits that defined late-’90s alternative rock, the Austin-based trio showed they haven’t lost a step—in fact, they may be better than ever.
Opening with the infectious groove of “Sooner or Later,” Fastball instantly had the crowd on their feet. Vocalists Tony Scalzo and Miles Zuniga traded off lead duties with ease, their harmonies tight and their guitar work crisp and full of soul. The chemistry between the two was effortless, forged through years of collaboration and live shows, and it translated beautifully on stage.
The setlist was a satisfying mix of old favorites and newer material, with tracks like “The Way” and “Out of My Head” drawing massive singalongs. “You’re an Ocean” brought a wave of nostalgia, while newer songs reminded the crowd that Fastball’s songwriting remains sharp, reflective, and relevant.
The band’s stage presence was relaxed but engaging. Their charisma between songs was witty and warm, offering insight into the stories behind their music without ever dragging the energy down. Drummer Joey Shuffield anchored the set with tight, driving rhythms, giving each song a solid backbone that allowed the melodies to shine.
By the end of the night, it was clear that Fastball isn’t just riding on past success—they’re still creating, still connecting, and still delivering the kind of authentic, hook-filled rock show that leaves audiences smiling long after the lights go up.
The next band of the evening was American rock band formed in Newport Beach, California, in 1986 Sugar Ray. Originally playing heavier funk metal and nu metal style music, the band achieved mainstream popularity in 1997 with their more pop-influenced single “Fly”. In 2019, ten years after the band’s last album, they announced their seventh studio album, Little Yachty, in June 2019.
The lead single, “Make It Easy”, was released the same month.
Sugar Ray turned back the clock and cranked up the good vibes in a set packed with sunshine-soaked hits and infectious energy. From the moment frontman Mark McGrath bounded onto the stage, the crowd knew they were in for a feel-good party, and Sugar Ray did not disappoint.
Opening with the upbeat “Words To Me,” the band immediately had the audience swaying, singing, and smiling. McGrath’s signature charisma lit up the stage—equal parts rockstar and master of ceremonies, he joked with fans, snapped selfies mid-song, and kept the energy sky-high between every track.
The setlist was a joyride through late-’90s radio staples, with massive crowd reactions for “Every Morning,” “When It’s Over,” and, of course, the iconic “Fly.” The mix of reggae-tinged rock and pop hooks felt just as fresh as ever, proving Sugar Ray’s music still hits that perfect summer sweet spot.
The band sounded tight and energized, with Rodney Sheppard’s guitar work carrying both the laid-back grooves and the heavier punches. The rhythm section kept everything locked in, allowing McGrath to do what he does best—entertain with heart and humor.
By the time the band closed the night with a rousing singalong to “Fly,” arms were in the air, voices were hoarse, and the mood was pure joy. Sugar Ray didn’t just perform—they celebrated with their fans, reminding everyone that sometimes, all you need is a catchy melody, a warm night, and a band that knows how to have fun.
Finally, the last band of the night was Canadian rock band which was formed in 1988 in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough, Ontario Barenaked Ladies. The band developed a following in Canada, with their self-titled 1991 cassette becoming the first independent release certified gold in Canada. The band’s popularity eventually spread to the US with versions of “Brian Wilson” and “The Old Apartment” from their 1996 live album, Rock Spectacle, followed by their 1998 fourth studio album Stunt.
Barenaked Ladies brought their signature blend of witty banter, infectious energy, and musical versatility to the stage in a performance that was equal parts comedy show, singalong, and emotional journey. With over three decades of experience under their belts, the Canadian alt-rock icons proved that they’re not just riding on nostalgia—they’re still a dynamic and deeply entertaining live act.
The band kicked off the night with “Gonna Walk,” instantly electrifying the crowd with its rapid-fire lyrics and playful rhythm. From there, it was a hit-filled ride through their eclectic catalog, including fan favorites like “Pinch Me,” “If I Had $1,000,000,” and “Brian Wilson.” Each song was delivered with tight harmonies, crisp instrumentation, and the kind of easy chemistry that only comes from years of playing together.
Ed Robertson led the night with charm and sharp comedic timing, interacting with the crowd between songs with improvised jokes and spontaneous musical riffs. Keyboardist Kevin Hearn added subtle flourishes and harmonies that gave the songs extra texture, while bassist Jim Creeggan kept things grounded with groove-heavy basslines and impressive upright bass work. Drummer Tyler Stewart even stepped out from behind the kit to trade vocals with Robertson in a few crowd-pleasing moments that blurred the line between performance and party.
The setlist also included a few unexpected covers, like a hilarious, harmony-rich mashup of classic rock and pop hits that had the audience roaring with laughter. Yet amid the jokes and goofy moments, the band also showcased their emotional depth. Slower songs like “The Old Apartment” revealed the band’s more introspective side, creating heartfelt, quiet moments in the midst of the high-energy fun.
By the end of the night, Barenaked Ladies had proven why they remain such a beloved live band. Their concerts are more than just performances—they’re joyful, communal experiences that remind you not to take life too seriously… while still playing seriously good music.
