Cody Jinks Headlines At MGM Music Hall At Fenway

On the Eve of Super Bowl Sunday, Causeway street was crowded with Country music fans waiting to get into the MGM Music Hall to see Cody Jinks and the Turnpike Troubadours.

As the fans were piling into the venue, the first performer of the evening Calder Allen was set to hit the stage. He is one of the newest acts to come out of Austin, Texas. He is a singer-songwriter and self taught guitarist who has two recorded singles which include “Conservationist’” and “Ripple Through.” In June of 2022 he released his debut album The Game He has a new record set to be released in 2024.

The fans were enjoying his music and were singing along to the songs they knew. The fans seemed to love his gritty voice and his sublime lyrics. He put on a great performance. 

The next performers of the evening was American country music band from Tahlequah, Oklahoma the Turnpike Troubadours. The band started their own imprint in 2007 and have released six studio albums. Their self titled album released in 2015 went to number Seven on the Billboard top 200. The songs “Easton and Main” and “Bossier City,” were recorded for this album.

In 2017 the album A Long Way From Your Heart peaked at number three on the Billboard Top Country Albums. The band took a short hiatus in 2018 due to a band members sobriety. They came back in 2022 for their long awaited reunion. On August 25, 2023 they released their album A Cat In The Rain. The album release came after they released three singles, “Mean Old Sun,” “Chipping Mill,” and “Brought Me.”

When they hit the stage the crowd started cheering and clapping. It was a long time since they had seen the band live and back together. The band opened their set with “The Bird Hunters.” It was followed by “Every Girl,”  “7 & 7,” and “Before The Devil Knows We’re Dead.” 

The crowd was singing, cheering, clapping and swaying along to the music. The band continued their set with a few more of their hits. The setlist was a mix of country with elements of political folk music, hony tonk, bluegrass, cajun music, and rock. They ended their set with “Chipping Mill,” “A Tornado Warning,” “Whole Damn Town,” and a John Hartford Cover ” Long Hot Summer Days.” The fans loved every minute and let the band know. They put on an amazing performance and the fans were glad they were back together to be able to see them live once again.

The final peformer of the night was American outlaw country music singer and songwriter Cody Jinks. His breakout album in 2016 I’m Not The Devil, reached number 4 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart. His other albums such as Lifers, After The Fire, and The Wanting reached number 2 on The Billboard Country Albums Chart.

Cody Jinks took the stage at the iconic MGM Fenway with a presence that immediately captivated the audience. From the moment Jinks strummed the first chords of his guitar, the energy in the venue soared. The venue provided an intimate setting that allowed Jinks’ gravelly voice to fill the space, creating an immersive experience for the audience. The blend of traditional country, outlaw spirit, and a touch of Southern rock resonated with fans of various musical tastes, showcasing Jinks’ versatility as a performer.

The setlist was a carefully curated journey through Jinks’ discography, featuring hits like “Loud and Heavy,” “I’m Not the Devil,” and “Hippies and Cowboys.” Each song was delivered with a heartfelt sincerity that connected the artist to his audience. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd singing along and swaying to the rhythm of the music.

Jinks’ band, The Tone Deaf Hippies, provided stellar support, creating a tight musical backdrop that complemented the singer’s soulful vocals. The chemistry on stage was palpable, contributing to the overall magic of the night.

In the end, Cody Jinks wasn’t just a concert; it was an experience that celebrated the roots of country music while pushing the genre’s boundaries. Jinks left an indelible mark on the audience, solidifying his reputation as a powerhouse performer in the world of country music.
